The committee firmly believes that table tennis has the potential to be big, but requires investment to develop the game.

Club chairperson Jeshan Reddy said: “The aim was to allow locals to come and showcase their talent, express themselves and have fun. We hope that the sport can gain popularity.”

He added that league details are being finalised and will be publicised when agreed upon.

Baby Mohamed Sahal Karrim is already showing an interest in table tennis.

Mr Reddy was also visibly pleased with the turnout on the day. Thomas Cebekhulu and his team, the Uthukela Table Tennis Team, popped by to show their support ahead of the young team representing the district at provincial level at the upcoming South African Table Tennis Junior Championships.

Winners of the junior males category: Yuashin Sewsunker (second), Craislyn Seebran Ramthol (third), Bhavaadh Ramdhav (first), Ashlyn Seebran Ramthol (fifth) and Owami Stheb (fourth). Pictured with them is Muhsin Karrim.

Mr Reddy thanks all who contributed to the success of the day, including the committee, players, supporters and generous sponsors.

The club is open to anyone in the community who is interested in joining. Club members will meet every Monday and Wednesday to coach juniors from 5.30pm to 6.30pm. For more information, contact Mr Reddy on 084-662-6265.
