Bowls district has a new local champion

Once again, the experience of the former South African coach proved to make the difference on the fast greens, with Theuns earning a fairly comfortable victory over his young opponent.

The KwaZulu-Natal Country Bowls Champion of Champions, held at The Nest Bowling Club last weekend, provided bowling of high quality.

Sadly, the status of this tournament appears to be eroding with only 12 men and eight women champions attending from the 21 clubs in the district.

The women were divided into two sections, with Newcastle’s Samantha Shaw winning all three of her games to win her section, while Susan Warden (Colenso) won the other section.

In the final, Sam’s experience at this level proved to be too much for her gallant opponent, as she ran out a comfortable winner.

The four men’s section winners were Theuns Fraser (The Nest BC), Mike Bowman (Mtunzini), Donavan Fisher (Klipbank) and Hennie Schnetler (Colenso).

In the semi-finals, Theuns accounted for Mike and Donavan came from behind to beat Hennie.

Once again, the experience of the former South African coach proved to make the difference on the fast greens, with Theuns earning a fairly comfortable victory over his young opponent.

This meant he added another title to his already long list of victories.

On the local front, the Spring Business League gets underway next Thursday and teams are again anticipating evenings of good fun and fellowship.
