Rotary Bowls Business League rolls to a close

Thursday nights belong to NG Kerk Dundee Suid (12 + 33), which team was also the overall league winner.

And so as they say, all good things comes to an end… This time it was the end of another highly successful – and most enjoyable Dundee Rotary Bowls Business League.

The league was divided into three with a Monday, Tuesday and Thursday winner. It was the Uelzen Owls on 12 + 30 which took Monday honours, with the highly illuminated BB Transport team winning the Tuesday evening section on 10 – 46. Thursday nights belong to NG Kerk Dundee Suid (12 + 33). This team was also the overall league winner while The Silver Vixens took honours as the Most Spirited Team and the dubious Stone Last award went to the Wine Owls.

Greg Conolly, club president, thanked the Rotarians who put in hard work getting teams together, cooking food and organising prizes.

“To Rotary president, Marlyn van Zuydam and your team: well done. To all the teams which entered, we truly hope you had a blast and hopefully we’ll see you on the greens again. To the bar staff, Que, Lindo and Xolani, thanks for all your hard work. To Oom Dougie and John, thank you for your hard work on the greens.”

Mr Conolly also thanked Debbie Sharp for the lucky prize draw, won by Mrs Adalis.

“A special mention to Dune Bierbaum, who celebrates her birthday this Sunday. She sold over R700 worth of raffle tickets.”

Suzette Cup: The annual Suzette Cup was played this past Saturday and it was wonderful to host 12 teams from around the zone. A total of three games of 12 ends were played, with the format being one point for each end won and two points for winning the game.

At the end of the day’s play, it was Barbara Strydom and her team who found themselves holding the stone. Alta de Kock and her team from Vryheid came third, Joan Schoon and her team came second, while Rita Meyer and her team claimed the trophy.

“Thank you to Essie Slabbert for sponsoring the competition.”

ATKV Business League: The ATKV Business League starts this coming Thursday. Play starts at 6pm and food will be on sale, and residents are invited to enjoy a evening out at the club.

Presidents Cup: The club wishes those members travelling to Empangeni this weekend, to compete in the District Presidents Cup, safe travels and good bowling. Keep the Dundee flag flying high!

AGM: Attention all members: the AGM takes place on October 9 – please make an effort to attend.

Tarryn Bierbaum, Rita Meyer and Desiree Carter claim the Suzette Cup trophy.
