Hikers go pink for an epic trek
Physiotherapist and Hikeobics founder, Tsebiso Maruping said this month’s hike was about teaching and learning.

The Hikeobics Club held a Spring-tober Hikeobics for Breast Cancer and Mental Health awareness programme on October 26, at Inkwelo Resort in Middelburg.
Hikers conquered the 15 kilometre mountain trek, painting the mountain scene pink in their outfits in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The hike began amid a short storm in the morning, followed by the scorching sun by midday.
Physiotherapist and Hikeobics founder, Tsebiso Maruping said this month’s hike was about teaching and learning:
“We had about 50 participants on the day and the aim of the hike was to educate hikers about breast cancer within the community of Newcastle, especially how to do self breast examinations every month, so that there is early detection for any cancer symptoms.”
Dr Thusi from the Dr Thusi Cares Foundation led the breast cancer talks.
“She wanted to create awareness to both males and females. Thusi emphasised that anyone is at risk to develop cancer, so long as you have breast tissue. We also brought forward the rise in mental illnesses, which can affect anyone. Hiking being such a holistic healing practice – physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually – I further discussed ways to deal with stressful situations in our lives and how meditation can assist in calmness and relaxation. The combination of hiking and meditation alone within 20 minutes, can assist to reduce stress and depression,” she concluded.
