Umzinyathi cricket team earns Premier League chance
The team made history by finishing top of the table, with a convincing win over Ladysmith.
Umzinyathi’s cricket team made history when it finished top of the Northern Natal League, earning a promotion play-off place in the process. The side beat Ladysmith in its final encounter to finish on top of the group.
Umzinyathi batted first, scoring 146 all out from 35,2 overs, with Henry Liversage top scoring for the team with 58 runs. In reply, Ladysmith was bowled out for just 94.
Nathaniel Israel top scored with 26 for Ladysmith, and Saqeeb Ali, Jonathan Benjamin and Labeeb Adams took three wickets each for Umzinyathi as they toppled the Ladysmith team.
The win means Umzinyathi finished with 32 points. The team played eight games, winning six, losing one and drawing one, and will now travel to Pietermaritzburg to play for promotion to the Premier League.
