Vryheid Landbou School boasts its very own swimming master.
Tannie Linda Pieters competed in the South African Masters National Swimming Championships, which was held in in Germiston from March 11 to 14, and earned a bronze medal in the backstroke event.
She commented it was a ‘very tough outing’.
Linda was supported by her son, Jacques Pieters, the chairman of the Wahoo Masters swimming club and Terence Parkin, a member of the same club and South African Olympic medalist.
Jacques is also an ex-learner of the school and the club.
Linda explained as this was her first time entering Masters, she was very thrilled, and said one of her highlights was seeing Willie Jacobz, an ex-learner of Vryheid High School and a member of the squad she coached at Vryheid Swimming Club.
She encouraged all swimmers over the age of 20 to enter next year’s competition, to be held in Cape Town.
