‘Virtual reality’ makes runners and riders reminisce

We do believe that all runners and cyclists are still healthily partaking in the sport

Submitted by Vryheid Athletics Club

This past Saturday was supposed to be the Meatmasters Mountain Challenge.
Under normal circumstances, the club would have been preparing for the last two months to prepare all entries, and mark the routes for runners and riders. There’s no need to remind anyone that we are all yearning for those days when we could just ride or run and not worry about infecting anyone.
We do believe that all runners and cyclists are still healthily partaking in the sport, and considering each other on the runs or rides they are doing together.
We know that our sport is keeping us healthy, fit and mentally sane… and in order for us to stay physically healthy, we are keeping our distance. No hugging or high-fives!
We have heard of races that might be able to take place, with staggered starts and non-touch water points, and we are just wondering what the future will hold. We have all been doing ‘virtual’ runs and rides, but I must say – virtual reality is getting tiring now! We miss the days when we could, without hesitation, greet and congratulate each other during rides and races, enjoy and share our beautiful trails around Vryheid with other athletes, and not have to think about and be careful of infecting anyone.
To all our fellow athletes – we miss you! We, at Vryheid Athletics Club, cannot wait to host another event and invite you to take part. Keep training and keep positive!
