Highlanders crowned 2nd Division champs

In the final hosted in Vryheid, the local team clinched a narrow 28-25 victory.

Newcastle Boschpick Highlanders II celebrated after being announced the NKZN 2nd Division champions on Saturday (July 23). The local second team beat Piet Retief 28-25 in the final hosted in Vryheid.

By half-time, said head coach, Andrè ‘Swannie’ Swanepoel, his team was up 15-12. After the break, Highlanders drew first blood and proved to be a team in control.

It was a closely contested game. Piet Retief jumped up to an early 12-0 lead. Highlanders fought back fast and made sure they were in the lead by half-time,” he said.

Jaco Laing was named ‘Man of the Moment’ for his crucial penalty attempt with only five minutes on the clock. His kick sealed victory for Highlanders II.
