It’s been a bittersweet start to the New Year.
The innocent sleeping faces of the newborn babies welcomed at Estcourt Hospital on Christmas and New Year’s day was a beautiful sight.
The class of 2013, the grade 12s and their overwhelming joy after they received their results was infectious.
But news that Estcourt lost four civil servants during the course of two weeks was despairing.
Lucas Nkala, a paramedic was killed when the ambulance he was in crashed in Pietermaritzburg.
Local traffic officer Ntobiziningi Emily Shelembe died in her sleep.
Sister Ntombikayise Mbatha from the Estcourt Hospital was killed during a head-on collision on the R103 and Principal of Amahlubi High School Mr Mthembeni Petrous Madlala succumbed to a long illness on January 4.
We convey our condolences to the friends and family of the deceased and are thankful for their part in building our community.

At Caxton, every story is written by humans. We use AI only to perform quality checks - never to generate the news. Happy reading!
