When freedom of speech kills?

When gunmen storm a newspaper, screaming that they are doing God's work and leave behind 12 dead, they have won no victory

“Freedom of speech” cost 12 journalists their lives yesterday in France. They died in a hail of bullets…  While we are not on the cutting edge of satirical journalism, we identify with those who were killed.

Journalists are much maligned! We are, after all, “ambulance chasers” to many, and an unnecessary inconvenience to police investigations because we intrude and ask awkward questions.

However, we ask the same questions of politicians and preachers; and we champion the poor, the underdog, the homeless and the afraid.

We protect our sources…

So when gunmen storm a newspaper, screaming that they are doing God’s work and leave behind 12 dead, they have won no victory. They are scum and there is a special place in Hell for them.
