New information has been received regarding the five firearms, including an AK 47 rifle,  seized when police pulled over a vehicle that tried to avoid a police roadblock on the Helpmekaar road last Thursday.
Police were manning roadblocks throughout the area as part of the Provincial Operation Feila campaign when Warrant Officer Bruce Simpson spotted a white BMW had done a u-turn in an attempt to skip the roadblock.

It was said by police that the information was radioed through and members of the Glencoe Stock theft Unit, who happened to be on the same road, immediately saw the GP registered vehicle and pulled over the driver.

However, it has now been said that the Stock Theft members, W/O Kruger and W/O Rheeder, were travelling on the road where the roadblock was held and spotted the white BMW and decided to pull the vehicle off the road and conduct the search.

At no stage was the information regarding the suspicious vehicle given to them via the radio, as their state vehicle has no radio installed.  A search revealed an arsenal of weaponry: one AK 47 rifle with 26 rounds of ammunition, two 9 mm pistols, one 765 and one point 38 special revolver.
Warrant Officers Brandt Rheeder and Dolf Kruger promptly arrested the man and took him to the Dundee Police Station where he was charged, KwaZulu-Natal Police
Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended the police for their dedication and speedy response.
