#FreshTake – Words of encouragement

Choose to surround yourself with friends who think positively and respond with understanding

Life can be like a super rollercoaster, with great ups and downs. When your faith has been shattered by a setback, or you experienced a stressful day at work — you could probably use a few words of encouragement.

Remember a time when a friend came to your rescue with offers of support or kindness? Those words and deeds demonstrated commitment and compassion. They are also a guide for you in building friendships and offering words of encouragement to others.

You cannot choose your family, but you can choose your friends. Choose to surround yourself with friends who think positively and respond with understanding. If you know friends who need inspiration, be their cheerleader and mentor.

Start by telling them things such as:
I am with you.
I am willing to hear you out.
I care about you.

An intentional approach to friendship can bring benefit to your friends. Your words can be a powerful tool to uplift, encourage and inspire. Remind your friends that failure is a stepping stone to success.

Don’t look back regretfully at the closed door. Look ahead to the next open one.
