Vryheid’s Hendrik Jansen van Rensburg – A passion for perfection

For talented local interior decorator, Hendrik Jansen van Rensburg, excellence is not only a habit, but a life-long passion, as he repeatedly pours his heart and soul into every aspect of his work.
An unmistakable attention to detail is evident in Hendrik’s work and his relentless pursuit of perfection is undoubtedly a true reflection of his personality and sense of self, which shines through in every project he applies himself to.
Hendrik’s elegant and unique blend of eclectic and contemporary design spills over into his own exquisite residence in Vryheid and he has harnessed his talent to offer clients a similar resplendence in their own homes, as he strives to create a haven for them, where they can find comfort in the beauty of their own sentimental treasures, accompanied by the midas touch of Hendrik’s keen eye for decor and design.
Born and raised in Wakkerstroom, Hendrik grew up on a family farm and was strongly influenced by his grandfather, an avid collector of wine, art and carpets.
“I come from a very talented, gifted and creative family,” states Hendrik.
After school, he studied fashion and later International Marketing. It was during his International Marketing studies that he acquired a holiday job with a company that imports interiors from India and was later offered a full-time position.
“I learnt so much from them,” reflects Hendrik. “It allowed me to experience lessons in life that you can’t learn from books…”
He later had the opportunity to work for Reney Otto Interior Consultants in Pretoria, an experience Hendrik describes as an “honour and a privilege.”
“Reney Otto was my mentor,” he states proudly. “She founded my love for fabrics. She has been such an inspiration,” he adds. “It’s amazing what you can learn from others and that knowledge becomes part of you.”
The hustle and bustle of big city life began to smother Hendrik however and, in the early 2000’s, he responded to the call of the hills and valleys of Northern KZN, the beauty of nature he had grown accustomed to growing up, and relocated to Vryheid, which he now calls home.
Pretoria’s loss became Vryheid’s gain, as Hendrik pursued his career locally, initially working with people he describes as “most professional” but then venturing out to create something of his very own, breathing life into his own company and creating his own destiny.
“It’s been many years,” says Hendrik, “and I’m happy to say that I’m still loving every minute of it.”
While the beauty of nature and small-town splendour that Vryheid offers remains home to HJvR Interior Consultants’ Hendrik Jansen van Rensburg, his amazing talent extends beyond our boundaries as well and he still does a substantial amount of work in Pretoria and Hartbeespoortdam, as well as in Umhlanga and Durban.
