Sarel players shine at multi code sport trials
Ashley Nero was selected for the u/18 KZN Country and District team. They will have a tournament during the July holidays. Congratulations! We are very proud of you.
On June 10 and 11, several Umzinyathi teams travelled to Durban to take part in the KZN Multi Code Sports Trials. Sarel Cilliers had several players in the Umzinyathi Khokho and soccer teams, as well as the u/15 girls rugby team. The u/19 Sarel Cilliers girls and boys jukskei teams were the winners of the Umzinyathi trials so they went as a team to the trials.
It was quite an adventure with some travel hiccups and arriving late in Durban, but we stayed at the luxurious Holiday Inn Express in Umhlanga with a lovely view of the ocean, which made up for everything.
On Saturday the Khokho, soccer and rugby teams participated in trials, whilst the jukskei teams had their final event. The jukskei competition was incredibly tough, but our girls managed to finish in third place, while the boys finished fifth. Mr Leon Lombaard has done a fantastic job coaching our jukskei teams for years, achieving great results. We want to thank him for his continued support and hard work.
The u/15 girls rugby team played trials at Kings Park on Saturday and they won their first match with a whopping 20-0. The second match was brutal but the final score was 0-0, which meant the girls did not give the other district one opportunity to score. Since we had more points, our team went through to the semi-finals. On Sunday we managed to win our semi-final with a score of 15-0. They fought like lionesses in the final, but sadly the final score was 0-10 in the other team’s favour. We are still very proud of the Sarel girls, for doing extremely well!
Hockey
The Umzinyathi Khokho team made it through to the finals, but sadly lost. Congratulations to our players who were in the team!
