Don’t forgive manipulators, don’t be kind to abusers and never tolerate disrespect. Be selective!

Too often, we’re nudged into thinking that being amicable is the better path to choose, at the same time, it’s good to remember that it is not the only path to choose.

A young adult should be discerning about the character types you invite into your life and choosing the values you want to associate with. After all, these are the ideals that will partner with our own and guide us through this maze of life.

Essentially important is recognising what you stand for and then seeking similar values in others, the age-old idiom of ‘birds of a feather…’ rings true in this sense.

Finding the correct clique that clicks with you may prevent the onslaught of ‘ridding toxic people’, although this is no guarantee because as we know life is fickle and of course, so are humans.

So, as you wade through your teenage and young adult lives, by choosy! Don’t settle for what makes you feel that you have to compromise yourself. Yes, be choosy … for yourself.
