Vryheid records emphatic win in Ladysmith

Vryheid Rugby Club secures a convincing 65-12 victory over the Black Jaguars.

This past weekend, the Vryheid Rugby Club traveled to Ladysmith to face off against the Black Jaguars, returning home with a commanding 65-12 victory.

The match kicked off at a blistering pace, with the Black Jaguars applying immediate pressure. The home side struck early, drawing first blood with a high-tempo try that tested the visitors right out of the gate. The opening fifteen minutes were chaotic, but they served as an excellent, trial-by-fire defensive exercise for the Vryheid squad.

Vryheid settles and takes control

Weathering the early storm, Vryheid soon took control of the match. The team effectively calmed the frantic pace and began to dictate the rhythm, forcing the Jaguars to play Vryheid’s structured game. Working seamlessly as a unified front, the visitors began to absolutely dominate the set pieces.

Forwards lay the platform for success

The forwards laid a rock-solid foundation, tackling relentlessly and shutting down the Jaguars whenever they managed to scrape together possession. Playing off the exceptional base set by the forward pack, the Vryheid backline was nothing short of flamboyant, tearing through the opposition’s defense with flair and precision.

Backline shines in dominant display

By the final whistle, Vryheid had completely run away with the game, claiming a massive 65-12 win and bringing a “new Jaguar skin” back to the clubhouse.

Men of the Match recognised

Special recognition goes to the Men of the Match, who were instrumental in the team’s success: number 6 Stompie Vilakazi for his immense physical work rate, and vice-captain Wandile Tshabalala (number 10), who expertly orchestrated the attack.

Focus shifts to Bears showdown

Looking ahead, Vryheid will aim to carry this momentum into their next fixture as they return to their home turf on June 20 to host the Bears.
