Employee arrested for murder at Vaal Race Course
The 55-year-old suspect is expected to appear before the Sasolburg Magistrate’s Court soon on a charge of murder.
Viljoensdrif police have arrested a 55-year-old employee in connection with the murder of his employer at the Vaal Race Course premises.
According to police spokesperson Sergeant Josephine Rani, it is alleged that on Saturday April 4, at about 20:04 the deceased and the suspect, who reside at the same premises, had been consuming alcohol when a verbal altercation broke out over horse racing winnings. The argument reportedly escalated, resulting in the suspect allegedly assaulting the victim with a spade.
The suspect later reported the incident to a security officer, who immediately contacted emergency services.
Police and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to the scene where a male victim was found unresponsive inside his residence. The 73-year-old victim was declared dead on arrival by EMS personnel.
