Community outrage after court releases drug accuse on warning

The accused is to appear in court again on May 27.

Community members of both Schonkenville and the Sisulu Section in Tumahole, joined hands in the fight against crime and drugs the past week, after Wilson Rudolf (65), accused of drug related charges, was released on warning by the Parys Magistrate Court. His arrest followed a drug bust in Schonkenville.


Police spokesperson Sergeant Josephine Rani earlier confirmed that members of the police acted on information regarding a residence allegedly linked to drug distribution activities.


The operation was carried out by the Zamdela Infrastructure Task team, Parys Crime Intelligence Gathering (CIG), Tumahole Crime Prevention, and a member from the Fezile Dabi Trio Task Team.
During the operation, police seized 299 packets of nyaope, 104 packets of crystal methamphetamine, approximately 5kg of unpacked dagga, and two half Mandrax tablets. The estimated street value of the drugs is approximately R10 000.


In addition, several electric tools, valued at approximately R12 000 were recovered. These items are suspected to have been stolen and exchanged for drugs.


During a gathering called by Ngwathe’s Ward 13 Councillor Mbuyiselo Tyumbu, he addressed the community following the bail procedure.


Tyumbu reassured community members of the commitment towards the ward to protect the community and safeguard the future of the youth. He said any further involvement in drug-related activities will be dealt with in collaboration with law enforcement and relevant stakeholders. He called on all residents to stand together, remain vigilant, and to report any illegal activities. “The safety of our community remains our highest priority,” he concludes.
