The police have opened a case against the licensed owner of the weapon.
According to WO Peter Masooa, the owner, who lives in Reineke Street, last saw his 9-mm Norinco Parabellum pistol when he placed it under the mattress of his bed. He then left for work.
When he looked for the firearm two days later, however, he could not find it.
Although there had not been a break-in at the house, the man’s children confessed that they had left the door unlocked. He has since been charged with the negligent loss of a firearm.
