Saturday is the BIG day for Project Boom Street

Saturday 22 February is the BIG Painting Day for Project Boom Street, and lots have been done the past week already  to clean the area and prepare the concrete wall for the colourful make-over.

This is what artist Deon TerBlanche has in mind for the wall, but as bright colours are much more expensive more donations is still needed, as well as soft block brushes. That is the only way the 200m of uneven surface can be painted. Even if 50 people come to paint, that still means 4m for each person to paint. Therefor the more hands the easier the job.

The Ngwathe Municipality has given permission for the project to paint the Mimosa Garden wall, and, thanks to the director of Community Services, Phumzile Nhlapo, the hole in the wall will also be repaired.

All artists, art groups, community groups, Parys Voortrekkers, sports clubs, businesses, volunteers, guesthouse owners and others are welcome to join during the week and on Saturday.

The only requirement is a positive attitude and community spirit. A hotdog stand will help too, says artist Deon TerBlanche. Deon  was also responsible for the #IMStayingParys project, and  initiated the Boom Street project. The past week he, together with volunteers Emil and Sonja and AD and Suzanne started painting primer, cleaned the pavement and street (80 bags thus far), scrubbed the wall, and more scrubbing “the never-ending wall, that felt like it’s getting longer en longer as we scrub”, and aslo trimming the trees.

And this is how the wall looks now

What is still needed are sponsors to cover costs (painting consumables, brushes, rollers, paint, etc.), help with the cleanup, help with preparation, and, of course, help on paint day.

This week, the wall will be prepared and painted with an undercoat.

If you can’t help with the project yourself, you might want to eft donations to FNB, Cresta, Branch Code 254905, Current Account 62318573153.
