Funda Kas`lam community projects “Cover Me” campaign

The Funda Kas`lam community projects are an initiative to promote reading and learning within the community of Tumahole. They are known for hosting reading sessions at “Saksen park” (a park around Tumahole), and at different schools around the location.

This year, they went all out and hosted a ”Cover Me” campaign, in association with the Batjha Pele Foundation, Auntie Pali, Hope for the future, Kat Kat and other community based youth-led groups. The campaign was about bringing a smile to children`s faces by assisting in covering the school books of grades 1–5 learners from various schools.
Nzima Jama and his team from Batjha Pele foundation, Youth Ambassador Nelly Valentia and Bonolo Agyei, a finalist in the Mrs Universe Pageant, were also on hand to help prospective students with NSFAS-, tax number- and census applications. The campaign was a success and many school books were covered.

Lwazi Mbana expressed thanks to the community of Tumahole, saying they were humbled by the support from everyone to ensure the events of both Cheer a Child and Funda Kas’lam Community Project were successful. Lwazi also thanked the executive mayor of Ngwathe, Ms Victoria de Beer. for her prompt response to their plea.
If she had not intervened, many school learners would still have had uncovered books.
“To my team, as I always say ‘changing the status quo is what we ought to do’.”
“We are nothing but grateful for those that always show support for our programmes,” said Lwazi Mbana, founder of Funda Kas’lam (learn, my hometown).
