Help save little Pepper’s leg

The injury to Pepper's knee is severe, and the options are painfully limited.

This past week, Tikara da Silva’s world was turned upside down.

After stepping out briefly to run errands, she returned home to a nightmare no pet parent ever expects. Her 11-week-old Boston Terrier puppy, Pepper, had been involved in a sudden and unknown accident. What should have been a normal day ended in devastation.

Tikara, who stays in Parys, welcomed Pepper into her life during a particularly difficult season, and in just a few short weeks, this little puppy became her constant companion – a source of comfort, joy, and grounding when it was needed most. Pepper is more than a puppy; she is family.

Upon noticing that something was terribly wrong, Tikara rushed Pepper to the vet immediately. X-rays revealed the heartbreaking truth: Pepper’s knee was shattered. The injury is severe, and the options are painfully limited.

Putting Pepper down is simply not an option. The remaining choices are either amputating her leg or attempting a specialised operation that could save it.

This life-changing surgery must be performed by a specialist in Johannesburg, and the cost of the procedure is R32,000 – an amount that Tikara cannot manage on her own.

A back-a-buddy campaign was started in the hope that friends, family, and compassionate strangers might find it in their hearts to help give Pepper a chance at a full, happy life. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings this little soul one step closer to healing.

As we move into the Christmas season – a time of kindness, hope, and generosity – Tikara holds onto the belief that together,  a miracle for little Pepper is possible.
