Free State Health condemns abandonment of newborns
The Department urged safe, legal adoption support at hospitals

The Free State Department of Health is deeply concerned about the abandonment of newborn babies, including reports of infants being left in pit latrines and refuse bins. The Department emphasised that this practice is dangerous, inhumane, and illegal.
On November 30 a newborn baby girl’s body was found at a dumping site near Zuma Section.
The Free State MEC for Health, Mr. Monyatso Mahlatsi appeals to all pregnant women and new mothers who feel unable to care for their babies to speak to healthcare providers about safe, legal, and confidential adoption options.
