Welcoming the court order, SASSA CEO, Mr Themba Matlou, emphasized that the judgment serves as a powerful affirmation of the South African legal system.

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) welcomed the unanimous judgement delivered by the Constitutional Court ordering Cash Paymaster Services (CPS) to repay SASSA a total of R81 286 177.

This amount represents adjusted profits derived from a contract previously declared invalid.

The ruling follow extensive litigation aimed at ensuring constitutional accountability in the distribution of social grants.

Welcoming the court order, SASSA CEO, Mr Themba Matlou, emphasized that the judgment serves as a powerful affirmation of the South African legal system.

“The judgment delivered on Wednesday April 8, affirms the rule of law and the supremacy of the apex court in South Africa,” said Matlou. “We are satisfied with the order handed down by the justices of the Constitutional Court. We believe this is a vital precursor to addressing other outstanding issues concerning CPS and finally close the chapter.”

In addition, Matlou said that SASSA will abide by all the directives issed by the Constitutional Court, and put the matter to bed.
