Elite keeps ABC Motsepe dream alive

The provincial playoff is now awaiting the team.

Hard work, dedication, and team spirit paid off for Elite Athletics Football Club the past weekend when they won the Fezile Dabi Regional League Championships.

Saturday’s game was the ultimate playoff-decider when Nicaragua Football Club met Elite Athletics Football Club on the soccer field at Flavius Mareka College.

Elite players not only played for a win, but fought against all odds to secure their spot in the Provincial Playoffs. Keabetswe (Tower) Moloi, Elite’s captain, scored a crucial penalty in the second half that gave Elite the lead, though Nicaragua equalised soon after. The match ended in a draw. In a dramatic penalty shootout, Elite Athletics triumphed 5-4, with a phenomenal penalty save by their goalkeeper, who stopped the first attempt from Nicaragua.

The winner of these playoffs will secure a spot in the prestigious 2026/2027 ABC Motsepe League.
The Elite team is coached by Tumelo Nhlapo with William Mphuthi as assistant coach.
