Popular Krugersdorp restaurant burns

Investigations are under way after a popular restaurant in Muldersdrift, Krugersdorp, in Gauteng almost burned to the ground when a fire broke out.

The West Rand District Municipality Emergency Services Unit responded to a call at about 11am on Sunday to the popular restaurant, Teaspoon and Tankard Country Inn Restaurant, now reportedly changed to Silverspoon Vintage Restaurant, in the Muldersdrift area, Krugersdorp News reported.

The local Muldersdrift Fire Protection Association assisted in organising a water tank for more water supplies. Firefighters were successful in saving the office and dormitory area, as they managed to contain and extinguish the fire on time.

The reception area, living room and restaurant, however, were reportedly burnt to the ground with little left.

Krugersdorp police spokesperson Constable Tshepiso Mashale said an inquiry has been opened for investigation regarding the cause of the fire.

In January, video footage emerged showing a fire blazing through the Bellville depot of South African Breweries in Cape Town.

SAB corporate affairs manager Sanele Gaqa told The Citizen the fire had broken out at about 4.20pm. However, it remains unclear as to what caused it.

The personnel on the site had noticed the fire and immediately alerted emergency services, who battled the fire until about 7pm, said Gaqa.

Gaqa added three trailers and several empty crates had been burnt beyond repair. No injuries were reported.
