Hands off children’s bodies

Children march through Zandspruit.

Zandspruit residents were surprised to see approximately 400 children marching through the streets of Zandspruit with placards and posters.

The messages of the placards were clear, and stated the children wanted abuse to cease.

“The march was arranged by Honeydew Police in conjunction with the Hlanganani Forum,” said police spokesperson warrant officer Karen Jacobs.

The Hlanganani Forum represents crèches in Zandspruit, Cosmo City and Itsoseng Informal settlements.

“The children, all grade R pupils, gathered at 8am and then marched through Zandspruit ending at the Realebogo Pre-primary School.”

The pupils were taught how to recognise child abuse and the different ways to report crimes against children. “Their rights and responsibilities as children were also explained to them,” added Jacobs.
