Animals suffer in silence especially in informal settlements where shelter and food are often scarce.
Bloubosrand Animal Welfare Group founder Klarika Nettleton and Constable Petros Kwalate from Douglasdale Police visited Msawawa Informal Settlement to take a look at the conditions that the animals lived in.
Nettleton said, “In terms of infrastructure Msawawa is one of the most underdeveloped settlements in this area. This has a direct affect on the animals.” Nettleton and Kwalate drove into the settlement with a bakkie load full of dog and cat food, blankets for the animals to sleep on. “Education is essential in assisting people to look after their animals. Water is a big concern because not one of the places we visited bowls of water for the animals.”
Kwalate added, “By giving residents the correct tools and information to look after their animals, it is projects like these that change the community.” Nettleton urged people to help the animal welfare group by donating food, blankets and kennels for animals in need.
