Blairgowrie Primary School hosted its Bee Brilliant spelling bee, with learners showing confidence and skill in front of judges and their peers.

Blairgowrie Primary School recently hosted its highly anticipated Bee Brilliant spelling bee, offering grades 5 and 6 learners a dynamic platform to showcase their spelling, vocabulary, and public speaking prowess.

The event, a key component of the school’s intermediate phase programme, was designed to test the students’ linguistic limits and identify the top three spellers who will go on to represent Blairgowrie Primary at the regional Khula Spelling Bee Competition.

She commended the participants for their grace under pressure, particularly during the intense final rounds where the vocabulary grew significantly more challenging. Ntamane noted that while the students’ nerves were visible, their ability to remain calm was commendable. The guest judge also took a moment to highlight the dedication of the school’s teaching staff. “The teachers have done an incredible job assisting them in every way, which really helps boost their confidence. I could see that, towards the end, they were really bringing their A-game.”

The spotlight ultimately fell on learner Midzuno Mathonsi, who secured the first-place title. Reflecting on the challenge of spelling complex words in front of an audience, Midzuno described the experience as both nerve-wracking and highly enjoyable, calling the event good and fun. The victory came as a pleasant surprise to the newly crowned champion, who beamed and admitted to feeling super happy upon hearing the final result.

Midzuno will now lead the charge for Blairgowrie Primary School at the upcoming Khula Spelling Bee Competition this September. When asked about stepping onto the next big stage, the champion admitted to feeling a natural mix of excitement and anticipation, confessing to simply being nervous for the challenge ahead.
