Celebrating women in style

The Old Parktonian Sports Club was buzzing with stylish women who gathered together to celebrate their womanhood.

“This is our very first women’s event, we always host men’s events or just sports events. We unfortunately could not do this in August, but it is never too late to bring women together,” said manager of the club, Lizette Dmescher.

The night began with free cocktails and a blazing performance by a fire dancer, followed by pole dancer, Julie Swart. “I was invited by the manager of the club to not only perform but share some pole dancing tips. I started dancing after gaining some weight while travelling. As women it is good to keep fit, this is my way of doing it,” said Swart.

The night continued with a performance and a short lesson from professional burlesque dancer, Mandy Newell. “One of the students who is a member at the sports club invited me to come perform,” said Newell. Other exciting activities included raffles where a few lucky women got to win prizes. “We had really nice prizes to give away of which were offered to us by our sponsors for the night,” said Dmescher.

The first women’s cocktail night event set the bar for any future events at the club. “We did the event not only to relax and have fun, but to raise funds for the members that cannot always afford the money for sports kits or club fees. We plan on doing the event again next, year making it bigger and better,” said Dmescher.
