Alleged drug dealer out and about

An alleged drug dealer stands outside a Linden shopping centre and pretends to sell sweets.

Residents in Linden have not felt safe in their neighbourhood.

This, after a strange man has been selling outside the Lemon Grove Kwik Spar shopping centre on the corner of 8th Street and 4th Avenue. The man has allegedly been pretending to run a small business selling sweets, but claims have been made that he is selling drugs. According to resident and chairperson of Linden Neighbourhod Watch (LNW) Fareed Hoosen the man has been arrested a couple of time, but often gets out on bail and is back at the same spot.

“The man recently went into the Spar demanding food from the employees, they refused and he became furious. Minutes later he returned armed with a brick and hit the Spar shop window,” explains Hoosen.

Hoosen states that the man, along with the people that sit with him by his stall are a hazard to the community. “We have complained to the metro police about the man. Then man and his friends are arrogant and will not budge when disciplined”.

Kwik Spar Spar owner Mohmad Vabil confirmed that the man has come into the shop and damaged the property. “Our head office has since dealt with the matter. As a result of the man being a security threat, we have taken high security measures to ensure that our employees as well as our valued customers are safe in and around our shop”.

Linden Police Station spokesperson Constable Ndivhuwo Mulamu said, “It is alleged that the suspect in question was released after appearing in court. The case was withdrawn in court, he was not released on bail at the Linden Police Station. The incident at the Spar was reported at the station, but on arrival Spar management did not want to open a case against the man”.

The man is thus still in and around the Linden area. The LNW watch is monitoring the man’s actions and residents have been advised to be careful.
