Scout achieves award
An award only one percent of Scouts achieve was won by a Malanshof resident.

Malanshof resident Ashleigh Cramb (19) received the highest accolade in scouting by achieving her Springbok Scout Award.
This is an award that only an estimated one percent of scouts achieve, and clearly Cramb’s 10 years of training as a cub and then as a scout paid off. She matriculated at Hyde Park High School last year and decided to take a gap year in 2013. She is now an assistant troop scouter at 1st Craighall Park Scout Group.
Cramb explained, “I enjoyed every minute of scouts. I have travelled to parts of the country that most do not even know exist and to Europe in 2011 when I was part of the South African contingent that attended the World Scout Jamboree in Sweden. I have made so many friends and met so many people that would never have been possible otherwise”.
She added that scouting gave her an appreciation of the earth’s natural beauty, and throughout her scouting years she has seen and done some extreme things. “From the highest point of the Sneeuberg to the lowest valley of Denmark, cooking in an orange peel, melting the soles of my boots over an open fire and running way from my patrol leader to avoid doing dirty dishes, are just some of my favourite memories. I have learned a lot and seen a lot. I have developed leadership, planning, management and life skills that are not taught anywhere else.”
It is hard work, she admitted, but Cramb believes the obstacles and challenges made her stronger.
