For the love of the game

Legends Indoor Soccer Club encourages players to get involved.

Randburg Legends Indoor Soccer Club is a place for people who love soccer to play the game in a fun and challenging way.

The club introduces a whole new way of playing soccer. According to club manager Alvin Govender, indoor soccer rules are very different to those of outdoor soccer rules.

Often, indoor soccer rules are more stringent, but this depends on the governing body of that particular area, Govender said.

Unlike outdoor soccer, indoor soccer has six players, including the goal keeper. Since Govender took over the club in 2010 it has remained the place indoor soccer professionals call home. It is open throughout the year, giving teams the chance to play during the off season.

Govender explained people of any age can play at the club. “We love investing our time in children. On Saturdays we have children from disadvantaged areas in Johannesburg coming to play at the club for free.

“We train them, offer them space to play and give them food. We also have a small library for them to use, so they can study.”

Teams that play at the club include Sasol and MTN as well as the Brazil Soccer School.

“Anyone can play indoor soccer.” said Govender. The sport may appear to be difficult, but once you learn how to play, you will easily get addicted.”
