Writers 2000 holds year-end meeting
Book club closes with a lunch, prizes, and two new committee members.
Randburg-based book club Writers 2000 held their year-end meeting on 23 November.
Members enjoyed a lunch and prizes for the Editors Challenge competition were handed out.
Every year the editor of the group’s magazine, The Write Stuff, sets two writing challenges for members. This year’s Christmas challenge theme – ‘The best party ever’ – was won by Mary Geddes. The Cheeky challenge saw writers drawing inspiration from ‘Mary, Mary Quite Contrary,’ and Brian McGrady’s poem ‘Mary, Mary Not Quite Contrary,’ took first place.
The club’s committee members hold office for two years, and the last vote took place 2012. The next vote will thus take place in 2014, however two long-serving members recently stepped down and were replaced. Secretary Dorothy Grist and the magazine’s deputy editor Mavis Briggs have been replaced by Tessa Moodley and Mary Geddes respectively.
The first meeting of 2014 will take place at 2pm on 25 January at Inyoni Creek Clubhouse on the corner of Modderfontein and Wordsworth roads, Edenvale. All members and visitors are welcome and the group hopes to attract more writers – both aspirant and published – in the new year.
