Puppy in a box rescued

A traumatised puppy's life and emotions are turned around after he was rescued from being kept in a small box.

The Randburg SPCA received a call about a puppy that was being kept in a confined space.

When SPCA inspector Debbie Kegel arrived at the given address, she found a three-month-old puppy confined to a homemade box.

“There was no space for the puppy to stand up or move around, neither did it have sufficient ventilation,” said Kegel. “The puppy had a space of no more than an inch in which to breathe. There was no food or water, only a filthy rag infested with fleas, faeces and urine in which he was forced to lie in permanently.”

She said when she removed the rocks on top of the box the scared puppy escaped. “After about an hour with the help of a kind neighbour we managed to subdue the puppy using a blanket.”

Kegel said it was clear that the puppy was traumatised and terrified of people. “With patience and love he soon came to realise that we did not mean him any harm. “When he enters his kennel now, his eyes are no longer filled with fear but runs up to us with his tail wagging and can’t wait for his daily dose of love and tummy rubs. This feisty little survivor has found his forever home with two other little dogs as his friends.”
