The Blairgowrie Community Association (BCA) is appealing to residents to support its ongoing efforts to keep the suburb’s public spaces clean, safe, and welcoming.

The association plays an important role in maintaining community facilities, including the local pool and park. Its work includes cutting grass, cleaning public areas, and assisting with repairs and improvements at the recreation centre. However, keeping these facilities in good condition requires funding, and the association is now asking residents to help ensure that its valuable work can continue.

Harold Fleishman, BCA co-chairperson, explained that they need to keep things going because at the moment, a lot of people don’t contribute. “We just get by. If something happens, or if we need to do something, then we say, we can’t. If the community don’t contribute, then the grass won’t be cut.”

As part of its fundraising efforts, the BCA has launched a community raffle, allowing residents to contribute towards local projects while also standing a chance to win exciting prizes. Raffle tickets are available from just R50, with residents encouraged to contribute more if they can. Every ticket purchased will help raise funds for projects and initiatives that benefit the wider Blairgowrie community.

He added that the raffle draw will be held on September 5 at the grand opening of the Blairgowrie pool, making the event an opportunity for residents to come together, celebrate,
and support an important initiative.

The association is urging residents to get behind the initiative and play their part in keeping spaces maintained and community projects moving forward. “People are buying tickets online. Those who are not buying, they won’t be in the draw. Some tickets are going for 10 for R400.”
