Ward 115 news

Chris Santana Ward 115 Councillor gives his thanks to the residents for a successful year.

Ward 115 councillor Chris Santana writes:

The highlight of my year was being elected in April as the councillor of Ward 115.

Thank you residents for entrusting me with the responsibility of representing your needs.

Although not widely publicised, much has been achieved in the last seven months including the near completion of the North Riding Secondary School, for which I have attended regular meetings with members of the Gauteng Infrastructure Development Department and the contractors that the governmental agency appointed for this project.

Providing oversight for the development of the school has been a time consuming, but rewarding project. Although not all of my suggestions have been applied by government, much that I have highlighted has been addressed.

Unfortunately, the upgrade of road infrastructure on Bel Airs and Hyperion drives, one of my serious considerations, which I have raised repeatedly in meetings, has not as yet been implemented by government. This means the school will be opening before the required upgrade to the road infrastructure and I have been informed by government that funding for the upgrade has now become an issue.

Although crime falls out of the jurisdiction of local government, I have become actively involved in public safety by meeting regularly with police officials and members of the Douglasdale Community Police Forum.

I have secured funding for the tarring of Blandford Road between Hyperion Driveand Witkoppen Road, where currently that section of road does not have a tar surface at all. I have been given the assurance of this investment by the regional director of Region E.

The recent storms have adversely affected infrastructure within the ward. Northriding, Jukskei Park and Johannesburg North have problems ranging from collapsed walls, flooding of houses, storm water servitudes eroded to the point of sewer line exposures and no electricity. All these issues have been addressed and will be dealt with by the City of Johannesburg.

I wish you all a festive season that brings you cheer and peace, and a prosperous and happy New Year ahead.
