Councillor urges residents to submit petition

Elise Road in Fountainbleau has literally been turned into a racetrack and residents are worried about their safety.

Resident Pieter Jansen van Vuuren has been in an ongoing battle about this stretch of road for the past year. He said it was also dangerous for residents exiting their driveways due to the heavy traffic on the road.

“Elise Road is turning into a nightmare as motorists see it as the perfect road to speed on because it is a long stretch of unhindered road that’s about a kilometre long,” he said. By the time these motorists reach the bottom of the road they are travelling too fast to stop at the four way stop. “It’s a miracle that no serious accident has occurred yet and we urgently need some type of speed-calming measure, either a traffic circle or a speed bump.”

Jansen van Vuuren added that residents in the area requested that city council install traffic calming measures. The entity said there were no funds available and that residents should consider funding it themselves.

Ward 102 councillor David Potter said, “Residents should get together and submit a petition to the City of Johannesburg via my office so that the City can step up and investigate the matter and provide these residents with feedback on their investigations.”
