Learn how to play

Golf for Fun promises to help golf beginners to the amazing world of sport through easy tips and fun games on the golf field.

Golf 4 Fun was launched at Roosevelt Park Recreation Centre.

The initiative, organised by Rand Park Golf Club member Themba Nobanda, creates a social golfing experience for beginners.

Nobanda explained, ”My friend Mutsai Musa and I have always loved golf. We decided to start Golf 4 Fun because we wanted more of our friends to play the sport with us and we wanted to make it fun for them to learn. We also wanted to introduce the sport to other people who may think it is a complicated sport.”

Golf 4 Fun also aims to break the stereotype of the sport. ”Golf is often perceived as a serious sport for the elite, or the rich, and until recently was a sport for white people. We want to show people that anyone can play golf in a fun and interactive way.”

Professional golf instructor Darren Witter gave the golfers quick tips on how to swing and taught them different golfing terms and the scoring system.

Nobanda admitted that golf was an expensive sport, but said Golf 4 Fun offered affordable rates for golfers. ”We understand that a number of people want to play the sport and we hope that aspiring golfers will use this platform to learn how to play.”

The initiative hosts events once a month and is open to all members of the public who wish to learn more about golf.
