Home sweet home

Eileen Sandrock saw a dog's picture in the Randbrug Sun and wanted to adopt it.

It was love at first sight when Lonehill resident Eileen Sandrock saw a photo of a dog up for adoption in a January edition of the Randburg Sun.

Sandrock had wanted to adopt a dog for a long time when a friend showed her the photos of the dogs available at the Randbrug SPCA. On the same day that the newspaper was delivered, Sandrock and her daughter Alice went to the SPCA and adopted a one-year-old Pomeranian cross Pekingese which they named Daisy. The Sandrocks still have the newspaper cutting on their refrigerator.

“She has adapted so well,” said Sandrock. “She gets along very well with our other dog Benji.”

The Sandrocks also commented on their experience dealing with the SPCA. “The SPCA is fantastic,” exclaimed Alice. “They know the animals. When we were there you can see the staff really care.” Alice, a second year medical student at Wits University will soon do community service at the SPCA.

Sandrock was impressed with SPCA staff member Molefi Levy and said, “He is truly a gift to the animals there. He adores the dogs and he knows their personalities. At the SPCA they really love all the animals.”

She said she would now only go to the SPCA if she wanted to adopt another dog. “The staff are so professional. They are not hardened by the sad cases they sometimes see. And because they know their animals so well, they helped to pick the correct one for my home.”
