New surroundings for pastor

A pastor with a new influence in schools and the community.

The new pastor at the Honeyridge Baptist Church in Randpark Ridge David Birkholtz has been in the city of gold just over a month.

Even though it has been busy with quite a few adjustments Birkholtz and Mikayla, his wife of four years, really enjoy Johannesburg. The couple live in Boskruin and are expecting their first child in July.

“Of all the places where I have lived before, the residents of Johannesburg are the friendliest,” he said. “It is really true what they say about the people here.”

Birkholtz was born and raised in East London in the Eastern Cape. He completed his honours studies at the Cape Town Baptist Seminary. He lived in the Mother City before he moved to Johannesburg.

“Last year by the providence of God someone from here heard me preach at another congregation. I came here for an interview in August and everything fell into place. I miss the sea, but at least Durban is not that far.”

He has worked in youth ministries for 10 years. “I like high school pupils living with passion and direction. There are so many negative influences in the world. So I would like to be a positive influence in the schools and the community. Church is so much more than just Sunday mornings.”
