The sound of music for 30 years

For the school's birthday the pupils perform a play depicting the life of Jesus in a new manner with original music.

For the 30th birthday of the King’s School in Robin Hills the pupils, a teacher and a former pupil have become creative.

If you walk past the school in the afternoon you might hear music playing and pupils singing in preparation for a musical that they will perform to celebrate this milestone in March.

Teacher Duncan Bouwer and former pupil Dominic Siaki joined forces to produce Starlight – the Musical. Siaki is also the director. After many auditions, the cast was chosen and the rehearsals have begun.

Bouwer describes the play: “A murdered king. A nation torn by war. An infamous pirate captain. A light in the darkness. Set sail with the crew of the fabled pirate ship, the Starlight, and her charismatic captain Jake, as they build up their crew and fan the flame of rebellion against the corrupt king, the dark power of the kingdom, Devlin.”

Bouwer said the story was loosely based on the life of Jesus. “But it has never been portrayed this way before,” he said. “Original music was written for the production and all the singing will be live. And there is different genres, and individual performances as well.”

The show runs from 12 to 15 March at the King’s School.
