Hijacker gets 15 years

FERNDALE – Man found guilty at Randburg Magistrates Court.

Jonathan Mutanda was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment by the Randburg Magistrate’s Court for hijacking a motor vehicle in Ferndale.

On 11 May 2011 a man was driving a company vehicle on Fleet Street when men in another vehicle hooted at him and forced him off the road, said Randburg Police Station commander Brigadier Lettie Hugo.

They blocked him off and, while pointing a gun at him, forced him out of the vehicle and made him kneel down in their vehicle.

Some of the men drove his vehicle away, while he was driven around Randburg by the rest for a few hours before bring dropped off.

The police were contacted and a case docket was registered and assigned to Detective Constable Moloko Motau.

Motau found and questioned the suspect, which led to the recovery of the hijacked vehicle in Northgate.

Court proceedings were conducted until the suspect was sentenced by the Randburg Magistrate’s Court.
