The Bryanfern Residents Association held its annual general meeting at the Randburg Police Station Lapa on 18 March.
At the meeting the chairman of the Bryanfern residents association, Ian Leo, gave residents information about all the projects that they have done and an update of what has been happening in the community.
Leo highlighted the importance of relationship between the association and the city council and also shared details of people whom the committee would contact when in need of help from either Johannesburg water, City Parks and other departments.
The chairman also gave an overview of the financial expenses of the association and urged residents to join as this would be helpful financially. “At the moment we have 400 out of 600 units that part of the association, we need more of people to join,” Leo urged people.
He stated that the community needs to work together to get more funding for the operations they do. “The aim of the association is[to] update residents on all the activities that take place in our community and those who would be paying the monthly membership fee have the privilege of knowing what is happening in the community,” explained Leo.
Ward 104 councillor Mike Wood said it was necessary to have the association no matter what. “A residents association helps me to communicate better with the residents, without it I am unable to establish any relationship with them,” said Mike Wood, in an effort to motivate residents to join.
Leo started the association together with the police and has worked on a few community protection methods which included updates of suspicious activity and people.
Randburg Police Station Commander Brigadier Lettie Hugo was at the meeting to explained how residents need protection and need to know what is happening in their neighbourhood. She encouraged residents to report any suspicious activities or people to the police
