Amazing Grace Private School donates much-needed essentials to Eskom community

Amazing Grace Private School shows generosity and kindness to the Eskom community by donating much needed essentials.

In the spirit of giving and community service, Amazing Grace Private School came together to make a meaningful difference. Learners, teachers, parents, and staff generously collected donations to support families in the Eskom community who are in need.

The initiative not only provided much-needed assistance but also encouraged learners to embrace the values of kindness, compassion, ubuntu, and service that Nelson Mandela stood for.

Fikile Thabethe, an added value service officer at the school, said that the initiative was inspired by Mandela Day. She added that the school believes that education extends beyond the classroom.

“The day reminds us of the importance of serving others and making a meaningful difference in our communities. We chose to support the Eskom community because we wanted our learners to experience the true spirit of ubuntu by reaching out to families in need and demonstrating compassion, kindness, and generosity through practical acts of service.”

The school donated a variety of essential items generously contributed by families and staff. These included non-perishable food items, clothing, blankets, toiletries, and other household essentials.

“We selected these items because they are practical necessities that can provide immediate support to families facing difficult circumstances,” said Thabethe.

“Our learners played an important role by contributing donations, helping to organise and pack the donated items, and participating in the distribution process. Through this experience, they learned valuable lessons about empathy, gratitude, teamwork, and social responsibility. Most importantly, they discovered that even small acts of kindness can have a meaningful impact on the lives of others.”

She hopes that the contribution provides encouragement and practical support to families within the Eskom community.

“While our donation may meet some immediate needs, we also hope it reminds community members that they are valued and supported. At the same time, we hope this initiative inspires others to become involved in acts of kindness and community service throughout the year.”
