In a crime brief statement released on 1 April, the Randburg police advised residents about how they can improve their safety.
“Common robbery cases are problematic so members of the public are warned not to be lured to secluded areas where discount or half price clothing are promised by unknown people,” according to the police statement.
It also warned residents not to allow anyone to help carry items such as handbags or to assist with the use of ATM machines.
The media statement advised residents are not to carry large amounts of cash with them and to have someone they trust escort them when withdrawing large amounts of cash.
“When locking vehicles, residents should also check that the vehicle is properly locked using the handle as they might be the victim of a jamming device”, according to the statement. Additionally, valuables should not be left inside the car or within view.
