Saved, treated and adopted

BROMHOF – Dog's success story.

A Labrador puppy received a second chance, thanks to Bromhof Veterinary Clinic and helpful residents.

The female dog which is about three or four months old, was recently hit by a car on the corner of Judges Avenue and Republic Road, Cresta. Kieran Rennie rushed the dog to the clinic and it was in a critical condition with several lung injuries, where blood was flowing into its lungs and it had a fractured and dislocated hip.

Staff at the clinic started shock treatment, doubting it would survive the night.

Surprisingly, the next day, it was found standing on its good leg and wagging its tail.

Through the help of the Northcliff Veterinary Hospital, the dog’s owners were contacted but they said that they did not want the dog back or to fund surgery, because they had already bought a replacement puppy.

The clinic asked for donations for surgery on Facebook and for help in finding the dog a new home.

Owner of the clinic Dr. Lee-Anne Kleynhans later decided to cover the dog’s medical costs. The donations received were given to Animal Lovers Project Swing (Alps) – an animal welfare organisation.

Staff at the clinic claimed that they were touched by the community’s response to the dog’s situation, which donated R17 000. The clinic thanks everyone involved.

The dog was eventually adopted by one of the clinic’s clients.
