Criminals caught red-handed

DARRENWOOD – Two men found pushing loot in dustbin.

Two men aged 18 and 26 were caught by Linden police while making their get-away from a house robbery in Darrenwood, on 27 March.

They were found pushing a municipal dustbin on Garrick Road. Police stopped to search them and found a plasma TV wrapped in a sleeping bag.

When a man who was driving past stopped and identified the dustbin as his, after he recognised the house number on the dustbin, one of the men fled on foot.

Police chased and apprehended him about 350m away from the scene.

Police went to confirm if the dustbin belonged to the alleged address and found other police officers attending to the house next door, where it was discovered the house was broken into and the TV, a sleeping bag and a firearm were stolen.

The two arrested suspects confirmed they stole the firearm and the one man hid it in a manhole while running away from the police.

The two men will appear in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court.
