Adopt a school brings change

COSMO CITY - The Siyahamba Foundation has assisted pupils of S'Godiphola Secondary School better themselves academically.

The Adopt a School program run by Siyahamba Foundation, a non-profit organisation which helps young people reach their academic excellence, brings change to Cosmo City.

This program is based on the book written by Professor John Higgins, ‘Yes, You Can!Becoming a Top Performer’, which is presented to high school pupils. The program has helped them improve their academic performance, as well their personal performance by developing self-empowering life skills.

“S’Godiphola Secondary School is the first school that Siyahamba Foundation has adopted in assisting the pupils to improve the quality of their academic performance. It has been scientifically proven through research that the better a pupil’s personal performance, the more of an expert individual they become,” said John Higgins.

According to Higgins the educational material they provide is highly commended by the Department of Basic Education and the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Basic Education as well as other experts in the education.

The foundation always need financial assistants from private companies to run the program and Respiratory Care Africa, in Kya Sand, a medical company dealing with equipment and consumables in the areas of critical care, has been of great help.

“We wanted to get on board because we are a local business situated in a place that has a lot of disadvantaged children. Perhaps some of these children could be doctors some day and help the communities they come from. With that said one company cannot do it alone, we hope more local businesses will come on board,” expressed human resource manager of Respiratory Care Africa, Kelly Riddle.

S’Godiphola Secondary School principal Regina Mpete said, “The grade 12 pupils are really thankful to have the foundation help them better themselves. We have already seen a huge difference in the pupils since Higgins and his team got involved. We are always happy to see most of them make positive choices because of it. We would really like to see more of the schools get the same help should more companies sponsor.”
