Randburg to hear Alex violence case

RANDBURG – 100 EFF and IFP members will appear before the court.

The Randburg Magistrate’s Court will now hear the case involving about 100 Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) members arrested for public violence during unrest in Alexandra last week.

The unrest involved the burning of tyres, barricading of roads and attempts to set buildings on fire by EFF and IFP members, and followed allegations that the African National Congress (ANC) and the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) tampered with votes.

The reasons for the move from the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court to the Randburg Magristrate’s Court were security and space available at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court.
